No more blogspam?
Have just been too blind to find out what was wrong with this installation of wordpress and why it kept letting blogspam post comments. No one sees it, but there’s a huge truckload of “comments” which pile up awaiting moderation. Every other day I go and delete all of them, as no one actually comes by and read anymore
Interesting things that I’ve found while playing around with wordpress:
- When comments are marked as spam, they actually stay in the database
- After checking the flag to dis-allow comments, previous entries that have had comments will not change, thus allowing comments
- Whenever installting a new plugin, always make sure that it’s world readable so that it can be executed by php/wordpress when loaded
I’ve decided to allow comments on this post, because, there’s a new swanky comment captcha installed! It looks decent, and it’s part of an effort to more accurately translate scanned text to digital text, powered by none other than, people who put comments in.
For those who have wordpress powered blogs, check out reCAPTCHA from the creator(s) of the CAPTCHA.
